Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television journalist, commentator and anchor of NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language and culture from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began working as a TV and radio reporter for Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976, she joined the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV located in Washington DC (then WTOP). In Washington, she was appointed general correspondent by NBC News two year later. 1981 she started covering at the White House, and in 1988 was named Chief Correspondent to Congress. She was promoted to the chief White House correspondent in 1992 and the chief foreign affairs reporter in 1994 for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell has been a panelist, as well as presenter of the TV show Meet the Press. She participated as a member of the panel during 1988 Presidential Debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has received numerous awards for journalism excellence, including her Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. The award was presented to her with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award presented by the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell started covering in the White House in 1981-1988, in both the Reagan presidency. Her reporting included a number of significant stories, including the Iran-contra scandal, the tax reform and the budget and also the arms control. She traveled extensively along with President Reagan to meet along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
